A family journal where you hold the keys.
Kavanah Journal is an installable, privacy-first family journaling app for chronological memories, developmental observations, and encrypted photo custody. Written entries live on the journal server; your photos are AES-256-GCM encrypted on your device and copied — as ciphertext only — to your own Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. The vault passphrase is never sent to the server or any cloud provider, and decryption, local recovery, and portable export are never behind a paywall.
The problem
Your child's memories shouldn't be a hostage.
Family journaling apps tend to hold your most personal photos on their servers, in their bucket, under their keys — and then charge you to get them back, or lose them if the company folds. The thing you most want to keep forever is the thing you least control.
Kavanah inverts that: your photos are encrypted on your device and stored in a cloud account you own, the operator never holds the keys or the bucket, and getting your data out is a promise, not an upsell.
A clear custody line
- Photo bytes encrypted on-device (AES-256-GCM)
- Ciphertext only, to your own Drive / Dropbox / OneDrive
- Passphrase never sent to server or cloud
- SHA-256 verify on both backup and restore
