WIC Companion Privacy Notice
This notice explains how WIC Companion collects, uses and protects information, and supplements the Auto Secure Login Privacy Policy. Both apply; where this notice gives more detail or protection for WIC Companion, it controls for WIC Companion.
What it collects
- Your email address and password — the email stored encrypted, the password only as a one-way hash
- Your state WIC agency, so the right approved-product list is used
- Benefit categories, saved lists, items and quantities, and optional reminders with a category, date and dollar value
- The retailer and store you choose for a trip, and a postal code for the optional store lookup
- Nothing else: no eWIC card number, no payment information, and no benefit balance beyond a dollar amount you choose to enter
Why it is used
To check what your benefits cover, build an aisle-sorted list, and plan the trip before the benefit expires.
Where it lives and where it goes
Store lookups send the retailer your categories and postal code, never your identity, and the retailer’s own privacy policy covers that request. The optional state-agency sharing box records a preference only: nothing is sent to any agency, retailer or advertiser, and there is no advertising or third-party analytics.
Who else receives it
- A retailer’s public product and store API, for stock and aisle information
- Google Play services, for the on-device barcode scanner in the Android app
How long it is kept
Saved lists, reminders and benefit categories until you delete them or delete your account. Your email and any dollar amount are stored encrypted; a reminder’s category and date are kept readable so it can be scheduled.
Sensitive information
WIC participation is income-linked information. The app is built to collect as little as possible and never to turn participant data into a product.
Your choices
Delete individual lists or items at any time, or permanently delete your account and everything in it from Account after confirming your password.
