To sign you in to the products you use and keep your account secure.

Where it lives and where it goes

Text-message codes are delivered by our messaging provider. A few products let you sign in with Google, which tells us your verified email address and name and nothing else.

How long it is kept

While your account exists; sign-in and security events for up to two years.
