ShopFit: prepare theme changes against the storefront that actually exists
Reusable theme specifications and app-footprint review make a storefront change easier to inspect before it is applied.
Work covered: Oct 7, 2026 – Oct 8, 2026
Look beyond a single score
A theme change is easier to review when it starts from the storefront’s current content. ShopFit’s October work turned focused theme-editing scripts into reusable tools that read the existing theme and prepare a specification. The proposed edit remains connected to the file it was built from, giving the owner a concrete change to inspect rather than a broad instruction to alter the site.
Make a proposed theme change reviewable
The theme tool can prepare changes such as removing an app reference, disabling a section, updating text or choosing a product list. Hand-picked products are checked for sellability because a theme may display every selected item. A separate app-footprint review looks for references across blocks, embeds and theme code instead of assuming that one removed block means the app has disappeared everywhere.
Review the footprint that remains
Removing an app from one visible section does not prove that all its references are gone. The footprint tool examines the theme’s blocks, embeds and code. It can therefore distinguish a disabled section, an active embed and a remaining code reference. That evidence helps the owner decide whether the intended cleanup is complete without assuming that every installed app should be removed.
Review first, apply through the chosen process
The generalized tools described in the October 7 record are read-only or prepare a change specification; they do not independently rewrite a store. Their value is in producing a clearer, reusable review. The work also repaired an audit-start problem so a requested audit would actually run instead of exiting without a report.
