One placeholder cannot describe an entire catalog
Giving unlike products the same default weight makes shipping decisions harder to trust. ShopFit’s October work first replaced placeholder values with product-based estimates in an approved catalog operation. It then added tools to read supplier master workbooks so available product evidence could replace assumptions.
Estimates and measurements are different
The initial pass treated its weights as estimates. Follow-up review corrected product groups whose wording needed a different interpretation, and an item already weighed by the owner was excluded from the replacement plan. That is an important part of the workflow: a broad improvement should not overwrite a better, specific measurement simply because it is running across a catalog.
Read the right supplier field
The supplier-sheet tool added extraction of usable weight and country-of-origin information, with checks around the relationship between the item and packed weight. It also prepared supplier picture references. The point is not to copy every field that contains the word “shipping,” but to identify the evidence that actually belongs to the product option being updated.
What was verified
The dated record includes development-store application and specifically authorized live changes followed by read-back verification. Better weight records are an input to better shipping configuration; they do not independently prove that a carrier rate or checkout total is correct. The meaningful change is a reviewable route from a placeholder to a supplier-supported value while preserving stronger existing evidence.
