ShopFit: give old product links a destination that makes sense
A new redirect workflow distinguishes renamed products, close matches, relevant categories and addresses that should remain missing.

An old link still represents an intention
A visitor following an old product address is looking for something specific. Sending every missing page to the homepage discards that intention. ShopFit’s October redirect work instead examined what each old address represented and what was still available in the current catalog.
Match the destination to the evidence
The review separated products that were open again, the same product under a new address, clearly matching replacements and relevant categories. Old blog addresses received a similar distinction between a close article and the blog archive. Where no suitable destination existed, the address was left missing. The workflow did not invent a replacement merely to make the error disappear.
Category names need context
A keyword alone can point to the wrong department. The matching work included a correction for products whose material words resembled another category more strongly than their actual purpose. A silver-plated item, for example, should not be classified as jewelry simply because “silver” appears in its description. Product meaning needs to survive the redirect decision.
Separate a repair from a ranking promise
The work also checked publication and sitemap evidence to distinguish intended exclusions from broken discovery. Tests covered redirect planning and application. The result is a more defensible path for old links; it does not guarantee search-engine indexing or traffic. Those outcomes remain separate from verifying that the destination is relevant and the repair was applied correctly.
