ShopFit: importing a catalog without losing what the product actually is

Catalog reconciliation now pays closer attention to re-listings, product types, original names, categories and barcode quality.

Work covered: Sep 26, 2026 – Sep 29, 2026

More products should not mean more confusion

Adding supplier inventory creates more than a data-entry problem. The same item can return under a new listing, a withdrawn item can linger in a preview, and a loosely interpreted title can change what a shopper thinks they are buying. ShopFit’s September catalog work addressed those cases alongside the import itself.

Preserve the important parts of a name

Title handling was tightened so meaningful leading numbers remain in place and a product keeps its real type. A book should remain a book; a Bible should not become a generic accessory because another word in its description matched a category. Color wording was also tied back to the supplier’s description. These corrections protect the identity conveyed by the title rather than merely making it sound smoother.

Reconcile before adding more

The development workflow merged re-listings, removed withdrawn preview items, and organized products into reviewed categories. Barcode work restored a missing check digit where the supplier data supported it. Together, these steps reduce the chance that an expanded catalog becomes a collection of duplicate, misclassified or difficult-to-match records.

A reviewed catalog is the useful result

This milestone was demonstrated through development-store catalog operations and subsequent checks. An import count alone does not establish quality. The useful result is a product record whose name, type, identifier and placement still agree with the supplier’s evidence, with publication handled through the owner’s approved workflow.
