Small inconsistencies can look like different businesses
A footer, contact page and structured-data block may all describe the same business differently after years of edits. SiteFit’s October 8 source update added a specific business-identity finding to bring those disagreements into the audit. It looks at the sampled pages and the site’s contact page instead of assuming the homepage tells the whole story.
Compare the information people rely on
The check can flag multiple names or phone numbers, missing address information, missing linked profiles and location metadata that does not agree with the business location. When the owner supplies the intended name and phone, the audit can compare the public wording against that reference. It surfaces a review question rather than choosing a new identity for the business.
Keep the repair under owner control
The purpose is to help the owner find stale or conflicting information before changing it. A second phone number may have a legitimate purpose, and a name variation may need explanation rather than blind replacement. The report therefore supplies evidence for a decision instead of rewriting contact details on its own.
What is established at the checkpoint
The new check was implemented and tested against controlled sites with and without owner-supplied identity information. The source record does not establish a new live deployment after October 6. It is a meaningful audit capability: bring business identity into the same review as the page’s other content, with the owner’s facts available as the reference.
