Character generation: lives, relationships and the places that connect them

The character-generation work behind Bars or Badge now produces richer life stories and more consistent relationships between a player and the existing cast.

Work covered: September 25–October 8, 2026

A life is more than a list of events

The generator gained a narrative form with a brief, a portrait, life chapters and an account of what stays with the character. Additional event collections cover housing, parenthood, outside influences and officer-life situations. The aim is to give later game writing a coherent history rather than unrelated facts attached to a name.

Relationships have a direction and an origin

Recent corrections make family terms reflect the person whose relationship is being described. Player ties use the same rules as the established character collection and refer to existing characters. A tie can identify where it began, including a place, institution or organization. This supplies a concrete connection for the game to explain.

Development status

The story and relationship capabilities were implemented during this period and connected to ongoing game work. Catalog versions can be preserved for reproducible generation. This is not a claim that every generated history has been individually reviewed or that every planned relationship interaction is playable. Generated narrative still needs contextual and editorial review.
